A VERY Friendly Introduction

"Wake Up! Wake Up!", a voice rang in my ear, as I awoke. At first, I was unable to recognize where I was for a moment, but as I saw the person's face, who was waking me, I instantly remembered.

I was on a merchant caravan, on my way to the Town of Charity, the last remaining bastion of the Ever Generous Sun.

As I paid the caravan driver, he and the other passengers gave me dirty looks as I got down on the desolate town.

This town used to be the capital of the sun kingdom, but the entire kingdom was reduced to just this desolate land, which itself was very far from a town. This all happened due to the Ever Generous Sun, the ruler of the kingdom, being killed by the Dark Gods.

As I walked into the town, I saw a sight contradicting its name. Most of the houses were now destroyed. Of the few houses that were left, most of the residents kept their windows and doors closed. The ones who did not do so, closed them upon the sight of me.

The streets were full of beggars and homeless people. The two people walking on the road, crossed by a dozen beggars on the way to their houses, without even batting an eye. This was definitely not in accordance with the name of the town, was it?

They shot me dirty looks, when they noticed me, particularly because I was standing out in my white, proper clothes(as a hero of justice should wear) while I was surrounded by people in rags.

I felt bad for the beggars, but really did not have enough money on me to help everyone. I gave one beggar a piece of bread and asked him the directions to the church. I had come here looking for the church, due to the rumor that the remnant artifact of the Ever Generous Sun was present in the church of this town.

The beggar solemnly looked at me and pointed in the direction of the church. I felt happy after doing such a good deed. I walked onward in the direction of the church, as I was attacked by two beggars. I fought them off, as I was trained in the martial arts, and knocked them out.

I was surprised by this, just as I looked back to witness a horrifying sight. I beggar whom I had helped, lay dead, by choking. His organs and bones were crushed. His body mangled in a gruesome manner. Blood coming out of multiple orifices of his body.

He was killed by being crushed under the other beggars, as they all jumped him at the same time, in a desperate attempt to get the bread. I had no more food to give, as I would be lacking in my own sustenance otherwise. The other beggars, after seeing my fight with the two beggars that attacked me, had hidden away in some place. I did not make an effort to go after them.

I continued onward until I reached the church.

I set my sights upon the church, or whatever was left of one, as it stood before me, with it's long lost glory. As I set my sights upon it, a broke out into a cold sweat, as if a cold breeze had passed me by. Just the thought of walking into the compound, made my hair crawl.

The fence was in tatters, as if a light breeze would make it collapse. As I pushed open the gate, CRACK! the gate fell on the ground with a creaky sound. I quickly pulled my feet back, narrowly escaping the danger of my foot being crushed by the gate. I walked in.

The compound was lifeless, with only dead grass. There was an attached ranch, oozing the putrid smell of rotting animal corpses. When I got a clear look, there were three carcasses of pigs, completely rotted and consumed by nature.

As I walked forward, towards the church, I almost slipped, as my feet stepped on a muddy part of the ground.

The calm and quiet of the place only heightened the feeling of imminent danger, as if it was the calm before a storm.

As I reached near the church door, just as I was about the push the door, I hesitated. My mind told me that, it was not too late and I still had a chance to do otherwise.

But I made up my mind and pushed open the door, which fortunately, did not fall apart. I felt the age-old air of the decrepit old church rushing to leave, as if they malevolent spirits which I had set free from confinement.

A chill ran down my spine as I set my first foot inside the church, awaiting what the future held in store for me.

From the inside, it reminded me of the tales of old, warning me never to open doors to spaces, which should never be opened. I felt as if I was doing something very wrong, but I still pushed onward, since this was a necessary evil.

As I took a breath, I felt the choking air around me. From the inside, the church was nothing more than a dungeon, but one could still feel what it once used to be.

As I looked around, I saw that nature had begun the process of reclaiming the church from it's human traitors.

The windows were boarded up, to make sure no light seeped through. But the wood was moldy and had cracks, thus many bits of it had fell off. Small rays of light seeped through these holes.

It seems this decrepit old building has outlasted the very people who had decided to board it up. This made it seem powerful, in a way.

The benches were reduced to piles of rocks, arranged in two columns. The altar, surprisingly survived, but time had still taken its toll on it.

As I looked upon the broken statue of the Ever Generous Sun, I felt a sense of peace in this unusual place. I also got some reassurance, that what I was looking for, would be found here.

I went behind the altar and searched through the rubble. Below the pulpit, I found a hidden compartment. At the sight of this compartment, I was ecstatic. I opened the compartment, to find an extremely beautiful sword with the mark of the sun on its hilt. As I picked up the sword, I felt power surging through me. I thought, "Now with this sword in my hand, I can achieve my goal of killing the Dark Gods and bring happiness to mankind".

As I was basking in the glory, that I had conjured up in my imagination, while thinking about how I will bring happiness to mankind, I checked my gear for the first artifact I had acquired, the shield of Pure Moonlight. Now with the Fiery Sword of Sun and the Shield of Pure Moonlight, I felt I was ready to take on the legions of the Dark Gods. I thanked the Gods for their help.

I was just getting ready to leave, as I felt something sting my neck and my consciousness began to fade, as I fell on the ground with a thump.

"Ah that's it, got the transcription of this guy's thoughts. Time to add it to my diary.", said Reynard, as he plucked his dart from the guy's neck and tore his head off for good measure.

As the guy's internal organs began to show, Reynard had a good chuckle, for they always made him crack up. Then he took the "Fiery Sword of Sun" and broke it in half.

"What a toy, looks exactly like the real thing and weighs the same too. Such a foolish guy as well, can't believe he fell for this. Seems like my trick of spreading the rumor worked here right?"

"I loathe this kind of human the most, always indulged in their self-righteousness and desire for fame."

"Didn't even realize that it was he who killed the beggar not the other beggars. If he hadn't come and disrupted their peace, nothing would have been lost. Could've just beaten the information out of the beggar and he would not be dead, just a little beat up."

"Cant believe the real Shield of Pure Moonlight fell in the hands of this moron."
