Obligatory Invitation

"Hey, hey. Why are you always wearing a turban?"

  ". . . ."

"Hey, hey, Doctor Ran! Are you ignoring me?"

"If you are going to just stand by and watch, at least be quiet."

It's been two weeks since Laura work in the same ward as Randia. She has been so picky when it comes to treating patient. She ignores anything that fails to get her interest. Only the most intriguing cases can make her hands move. Otherwise, she spends her time reading romance novel and pestering other medevists, mostly Randia.

"Come on, don't be so pricky! Also, it's honey urine, we can do nothing about that."

"N-No! Am I possessed by dark power?! Please help me! I don't want to die!" cries the fat nobleman.

Laura sips her tea as she writes down something in a scroll. She writes so fast and then signs it elegantly without a pause. Despite her looking bothered, she finally did her job for once. Wilrd let out a breath of relief since it's the first time she did anything meaningful for that day.

"The only thing that is killing you is your gluttony. Read this carefully. I have listed the only food you can eat for the rest of your life."

The nobleman took the paper and read it carefully. He is sweating and refuse to believe what he sees. He is prohibited to consume fatty, sugary, or salty food. Not only that, but potatoes, corn, and even grains and peas are not in the list. The minimum daily physical exercise is also leaving him uneasy.

"Being away from physical bor as a bureaucrat often left your health unattended. Moreover, with all the sugary goodness circuting around Seraina nowadays, being unable to control yourself of the temptation of sweet treats is practically a suicide," Randia expins as he washes his hands after tending to the nobleman's open wound with a special salve.

Afterwards, the nobleman left with his attendant after paying quite a rge sum of money as alms. Then, to continue where she left off, Laura disturbs Randia by touching the stuff in his bag. She wears the elephant pgue mask that Viena often pys with and spins the snout-like part on Randia's face, testing his patience.

"Enough of this. I'm going to file a compint to Bishop Hervet. You are more troublesome than the patients. Wilrd, please notify the deacon," Randia grabbed the snout-like part of the mask angrily.

  "A-Ah, but-"

"Go on, Willy. I'm curious too. What is he going to do about this, I wonder?" Laura smiles mischievously.

". . . If you say so, midy."

Wilrd left the room, leaving Randia and Laura alone in the room since Mil is away on an errand to resupply the herbs and clothes. Randia put his mask back inside his bag with irritation still persist on every corner of his face. It's the first time Laura took out something from his bag ever since they work together, and although she did expect more reaction than usual, she doesn't expect it to be harsh.

"Wow, you are even more grumpy than usual."

Randia gives her the silent treatment as he continues to pack his stuff to end the day.

"Was it because I py with your daughter's toy?"

His hands immediately stopped, and he looked at Laura sternly - almost threatening.

"What is your game, Laura Crentine?"

Laura stands up and grabs her coat. She is all smile and quiet, until the very moment she was about to leave the room. Before she opens the door, she gives Randia sharp side eye, and there is not a single shred of the chummy bubbly personality she usually has in her face.

"Nothing. I'm just feeling so bored nowadays. I was hoping for fun cases when I agreed to be a locum in this pce, but seriously, this cathedral has not much to offer despite being unnecessarily huge. Oh! Now that I think about it, I heard your daughter is a quite fun chatterbox! Please bring her with you tomorrow, we really need a refreshing change of pace for once in a while, don't you think? I'm so excited to see if she has the same bnd poker face as you do!" said Laura with a big smile, abruptly erasing the cold gaze she had briefly shown earlier.

The woman leaves the room, leaving Randia wondering all by himself. He is rather surprised since this is the first time he saw Laura looked at him that way. The look of disdain, scorn, and veiled interest are the only signals he is catching. Soon after, Goldun, a half-dwarf attendant of Laura entered the room. He fetched his boss stuff as usual and wanted to leave without saying a word before Randia finally called out to him.

  "Goldun, wasn't it?"

  "Yes, I am."

"Your mistress seemed to have something against me, but I have no idea what it is. Perhaps you know something about it?"

"Beats me. All that I can tell you is that she is the kind of a pampered princess who always get what she wants. If you don't entertain her, you'll be getting her ire. And believe me, that crazy witch can be very troublesome."

The conversation between the two ended there since Randia doesn't say any word afterwards. The day at the cathedral ended with Randia going home with a thought in his head. Questions are popping out nonstop as he reflects on the past two weeks. He keeps jogging his mind, trying to find a moment where he might wrong Laura by any chance. As, he couldn't come up with anything, he never said anything too hard to take and never overstepping his pce. If anything, Randia was actually keeps minimal interaction with her to avoid making any unnecessary trouble.

Thus, the only conclusion he could reach is that whether Laura and Viena had met each other somehow, or that Laura had fixed her eyes on him way long before her clinical practice in the Great Cathedral of Aine.

Randia go home all alerted. He heightens his senses, being aware of whoever might tail him on his way. Someone has their eyes on him, and that alone is a mistake he should've never made in the first pce. He regretted that he has grown careless with each passing peaceful days. Now, he must fix it and nip any potential problem in the bud.

  "Papa! You are home early!"

"Here. Enjoy it together with Lisabelle and Ladt Eleanor," Randia gives Viena a heavy sack filled with warm meat.

"Woah! Smoked mutton! Are we celebrating something?!"

  "Vivi . . .!"

Viena was busy welcoming Randia when Lisabelle calls for her. She wanted to ask her where she put her hair comb but then noticed that Randia had come home.

"Oh? You are home three hours earlier than usual. Did something happen?"

  "Not really."

"Ha. You and your kid are so damn bad at lying. You are not fooling anyone with all that furrows. So? Did you get fired or what?"

Instead of replying to Lisabelle right away, the man walked past her to wash his hands and face. Viena stands beside Lisabelle, seemingly also waiting for her father to talk first. Then, after a long dey, Randia sits on the living room sofa with a gss of water in his hands.

  "Do you know Laura Crentine?"

"Of course. She is the second daughter of the Lord Dion Cren, the foreign minister of this country. Why do you suddenly ask?"

Randia keeps his mouth shut and stares at his own reflection on the gss.

"Have any of you met her in person?"

"Oh! The Purple Lady!" suddenly Viena excitedly.

"Yes, we did. Several months ago, back when you two are still new to this pce. Remember that time when you ask me to babysit this midget?"

'If they already met each other, then why does Laura words implied as if they haven't?', Randia thought to himself. Surely, there is a good chance that everything was just a coincidence, and that he is just simply overthinking things. However, if they are not, then Randia needs to figure out her intention.

  "Papa? Is something wrong?"

Randia has been silent for too long, and he still couldn't determine which one is which. Until suddenly he finally works up a good guess. The case with the airborne knight Hirma regarding his analgesic powder that got confused with a soulgar must have gained Laura's attention somehow. In summary, the bored noblewoman is set on investigating him thoroughly. If that's the case, then it's also an opportunity for Randia to correct the misunderstanding once and for all.

"Viena, you will be coming with me to the cathedral tomorrow. Don't stay up too te."

After saying that, Randia drinks his water and proceed to leave the room.

"That's all? So much for being dramatic out of nowhere," Lisabelle sneered.

"Sometimes having nothing's going on is a good thing going on, young dy."

"Yeah, not on my watch. I'll come with her tomorrow. We will be there at ten."

Hearing that, Randia turns his head around in question.

"But I reckon you are under house arrest?"

"Today is the st day," Lisabelle smiled in relief.

  ". . . I see. Viena."

  "Yes?"

"Give the first slice to Lisabelle. Congratutions."

"Hehe! So, we are celebrating something after all!"
