Interlude – The Spy’s Decision

Shortly after the war, I had a strange dream. A faceless figure approached me and whispered something into my ear I cannot for the life of me remember, but when I woke up, all my memories came back to me, and I realized exactly what had happened. He altered our memories. I spent the next four months journeying the continent and confirmed this, as none of the other party members I'd seen remembered things as they actually occurred.

Witnessing his might first hand, I was sure he was the one pulling the strings behind the Kingdom, the one all the Dhampirs answered to, and it filled me with rage. Because of him, Lay had to... I'd completed her life's work and solved the great mystery, but more than ever, I felt empty. There was something deeply unsatisfying about it, and I wanted to take it further. I wanted to avenge her, but that felt like nothing but a pipe dream.

Then, another night when I closed my eyes to sleep, I saw him again, the faceless figure. He told me where to go to acquire power and directed my attention to a betrayal I never saw coming. I didn't want to believe it with every fiber of my being, but he was right. Daphne had switched sides and was now working for the monster I wanted to kill.

I saw the earth open up beneath her feet, a tell-tale sign of the monster's Lordship over the earth, as the faceless figure expined to me, and now, I would take my one and only chance to acquire great power.

"Who are you?" The woman Daphne was fighting asked as I approached her, my face and body covered by a bck robe with a hoodie.

"The God of the Theocracy sent me to you," I began as he directed me.

She nodded, almost giggling to herself in delight as she said, "If he's the one who sent you, this is going to be interesting. So, what do you want me to do for you?"

"Please, make me one of your disciples," I said, swallowing up my pride and preparing for rejection, but her smile grew even wider as she excimed,

"Consider it done! From this day onward, I will train you personally! It will be extremely harsh, but you'll be able to handle it, right?"

"Yes," I kept my answer short and simple.

"Ah, I almost forgot my manners. My name is Anneliese. What's yours?" She asked.

"Hertz." And from that day, I joined Cerberus, eventually rising through the ranks to become one of the three heads, the famed Executioner, rumored to bring death to all enemies of the Empire.
