Memory infusion! Alright. I'm going to analyze a book that I recently started reading. It is '我绑架了时间线'/ 'I kidnapped the timeline'. I am actually really starting to like this book. I didn't like the start at first and didn't expect the narrator to grow on me. But I actually like the direction the story is taking! I feel it has some insane potential.
So in this stage. I'll dedicate to describing this book!
Alright. So first, let us inspect the world. The world is very different from ours, a sort of calamity has happened that has caused humanity to be repressed. Domains/Fields have appeared all around the world and are spreading like a disease. But this disease produces dimensional creatures that are immune to the accumulation of humanities technology. Guns? Bombs? Even nukes! They do nothing to these powerful creatures.
The story doesn't start at the introduction of this calamity. We start hundreds of years afterwards where society has already developed technology, techniques and even magic to counter these new threats. That's right, humanity has tapped into the power of the supernatural.
Now. Let us get to the MC. The MC is just your average person. Well, before getting his goldenfinger, he was top of his school in grades. But other then his study ability being better then others. He is just a normal human. One day in class, he feels tired and passes out.
When he opens his eyes. He finds that his body is rotting and he is an undead! Not only that. But he is surrounded by mountains of corpses. The MC is in a weakened state and panics and then is surrounded by undead. He then dies...
After dying. The MC wakes up in class. It was as if that other world was just a dream. But things are just getting started! So one thing that may throw you off about this book is the fact that there is a 'narrator' in the story. The MC can hear this narrator and even makes comments/interacts with it.

At first. This made me not take the story too seriously. But as I read more. I think the narrator adds some comedy to this dark situation. Despite the message and ideals of the MC to save humanity and despite how serious this task is. Some comedy manages to sneak into the novel! I just found some of the moments pretty funny.
The MC has a lot of abilities and potential. The first aspect of his goldenfinger is the ability to travel 1,500 years into the future when he sleeps. This isn't free however, it requires him to fill up his energy capacity.
The second cost to his ability is it makes him a cultivation invalid. He can't cultivate with his present body at all. However, his progress and powers unlocked in the future feed back into his real body.
That's right! The MC has the ability to gain 'prefixes' based on what he kills! So if he kills something with, say the ability to read minds. He will gain that ability.
I just find all the potential directions this story can go interesting. I'll give some examples, the MC acquires the ability to read minds from his future self.
At first... He doesn't have any useful uses for this. But in the future, he knows he will get executed for becoming a 'traitor' to humanity in one of the timelines. So he gives his email to his friend and ask him to send him messages on what happens after his death.
Then the MC goes to the abandoned base in the future and uses a terminal to access the internet. Despite humanity having died. These relics of the past still exist and thanks to the advancements of technology. Some of the tech still works despite centuries having passed.
The MC logs into his email and reads the messages of his friend to learn about the history of the world after his death. His friend didn't believe him at first. But when he watched the broadcast of him getting executed. He realized the MC wasn't joking at all and was dead serious.
His friend talks mainly about research and useless things. But then he presents an idea.
It goes something like this:
"If you have the ability to read the memories of people as you say. You should have your brain preserved in a vat after death using the advancement of technology until you revive. You can then use your ability on yourself in the future timeline to read the memories of your life in the past timeline."
So basically. This is how the ability works (this isn't accurate, it is just representation).
The MC is in timeline 'A' let's say.
The MC uses his ability and goes to let's say 'A-1' (future of his timeline)
The knowledge brought back from A-1 changes the future. So it is like a new timeline. I'd call it B. But when he goes to B-1. While he is in the future. His past self never left.
His past self will live out his entire life based on how he would do things.
The MC does things like write in a diary what he plans to do in this life. He watches himself in the future.
The MC literally 'kidnaps' the timeline by abusing his ability!
The life that lives his life lacks his ability to go to the future.
I am only on chapter 111 right now. But I highly recommend this one! Don't expect it to blow you away right away. It takes time to establish his power and explore the world.
But the MC has so many different paths he can take. But if he messes up in his main timeline... He will be screwed! So he often saves the dangerous stuff for his powerless past self to do.
