As soon as Rowan came to the realization that he was watching the history of the Mother Tree, a lot of things started to make sense.
At the same time, a lot more questions surfaced, such as who was it that planted the first Mother Tree? What kind of being could create such a plant that seems to spread out forever? What were the spheres that he was looking at?
As much as Rowan would like the answer to his questions, he knew now was not the time. The Mother Tree was incapable of speech and the fact that it showed him its beginnings showed how much trust it had in him.
Right now, all Rowan could do was answer that trust and continue watching whatever Mother Tree was trying to show him.
Right now, he was watching the whole elven village burn.
Rowan already knew what was going to happen next. After all, this was part of the history that he had lived through. That didn’t stop him from feeling pain as he watched the village burn.
The Mother Tree had been burned by the flames of the black dragon, leaving only part of its trunk behind. He saw an elf chase after their village destroyer, an elf that was all too familiar to Rowan.
Almar.
Rowan already knew what was going to happen next and it didn't take long before Almar returned with an injured human boy.
Thankfully, it seems that Rowan did not have to witness the whole tragedy of the farm happen again. While the years may have mended his trauma, he wasn’t ready to witness the whole experience again. Although maybe if he could watch the whole battle, then maybe he would know what the end result would be and gain some closure on what happened to his grandpa.
Truthfully Rowan didn't know if he could handle watching the scene again and thankfully he didn't have to make the choice. He observed Almar placing him in the remains of the Mother Tree and then the elf went to clean up of what remained of the village.
Time quickened as the ten year old Rowan was soon released by the original Mother Tree. Once the human boy had broken out, the damage Mother Tree had withered, but not before planting a seed in Almar’s hands.
Watching the Mother Tree sacrifice the last of its vitality for him was certainly different from hearing about it.
Rowan watched as Almar took care of the human child and then proceeded to teach him, only to pass a few days later. Then came the hardship and solitude Rowan had to endure for training for several years. The good news was that he didn't have to spend the whole five years watching himself train as time seemed to fast forward once again. Rowan watched himself leave the camp and return several times.
Then came the point where Wolfie came and Rowan knew it was almost the end.
Rowan watched as the tree suddenly reached the point where it could grow its own flowers and let them bloom. He saw himself slowly bringing the fruit and taking a bite.
Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
Then Rowan’s vision turned completely black.
The next thing Rowan knew was that he found himself standing right where he saw himself. Still holding the fruit after only having taken one bite.
Did the vision of Mother Tree history happen as a result because of that one bite? Then if he took another bite, did that mean he would need to experience all those countless years watching different trees grow again?
If that was the case, then did that mean every time he took a bite of the fruit he would see a vision? How long would that take him to finish the fruit? At least the fruit was delicious but Rowan didn't think his mind could take another trip through Mother Tree’s history.
In the end, Rowan decides to take another bite. Even if another vision occurred, Rowan reckoned it would be fine. The vision he just had had gone through countless years. However when the vision finished, it seemed that not a lot of time had actually passed in reality. He had learned a lot from what he saw. So even if he was dragged into another vision after taking another bite, then that would mean there were new things that he could possibly learn.
His taste buds were once again assaulted by a myriad of flavors. However this time was different, as the second bite flavor seemed more…muted. It was still delicious, but not as impactful as the first bite had. The first bite had literally sent him to the past.
There was no vision nor was he transported anywhere else. After slowly chewing a few times in his mouth, Rowan swallowed the fruit.
Then he took another bite.
Nothing happened and at this point, Rowan released a sigh of relief. To be honest, one vision was enough. He didn't need a repeat of the history lesson. In fact, he needed a bit of time to digest the fruit and what he learned.
Rowan felt he had been forced to learn about a level of power that he was not yet ready to reach. It wasn't just one level too, the power jump was beyond his comprehension. Rowan was after all just an intermediate class warrior. It was one thing to hear about it, but to actually witness god defying strength was another story.
Once Rowan finished the fruit, he observed the Mother Tree once more. The towering tree he saw before the vision took over was not there.
Had it been just his imagination?
Rowan shook his head in denial. There was something else going on. It was just beyond his understanding, just like most of the vision. Maybe he’ll figure it out later, but definitely not at the moment. That was when Rowan noticed something different about himself.
HIs arms had grown flowers.
These flowers matched the ones growing on the Mother Tree. Five white petals evenly spreaded out with something in the middle.
How?
Why?
Rowan's first reaction was to pluck out the flowers, but then he paused. He knew his arms originated from the Mother Tree and it would seem disrespectful if he just plucked them off. The ripening of the fruit must have caused some sort of change in both the tree and his arms. It would certainly explain the strange vision he saw. The fruit ripening symbolized something, but even after taking a history lesson about the Mother Tree, Rowan still did not know.
In the end, Rowan decided to pluck off the flowers, but gently. He then planted them around the Mother Tree which took a bit of time and work. The large mana presence had slowly disappeared after Rowan had eaten the fruit. Wolfie still remained passed out of the side and the teenage boy decided to let the pup recover naturally.
As Rowan was thinking about what to do next, he felt something.
BA-BUMP.
BA-BUMP.
BA-BUMP.
Something was coming. Rowan didn't know what was coming nor did he understand how he knew, but he just did. Whatever it was, it was strong.
It hadn't even arrived yet and its presence was already overbearing.
And it was heading straight for Rowan and the Mother Tree.
